3 hurt in Danao road accident
CEBU – At least three persons were injured when a cargo truck rammed into two vehicles along the national highway in sitio Quarry, barangay Looc, Danao City yesterday morning.
Two passengers of Isuzu Elf jeepney - Rolyn Tejero and Meria Hermosi-lla of barangays Baliang and Tabok respectively - sustained injuries to different parts of their bodies and were rushed to Danao City District Hospital for treatment.
But due to their serious wounds, they were later transferred to a hospital in Cebu City.
Marita Damayo, a resident of Carmen town and owner of the Fuso Canter Cargo truck driven by Roel Hermosilla with plate number GPW 262, was also injured when her legs were pinned as she was sitting in the front passenger’s seat when the accident occurred.
SPO1 Reynante Manulat of Danao City Police Station said the accident happened at past 6 a.m. yesterday when Hermosilla tried to overtake an Isuzu Forward Freezer Van. Both vehicles were northbound.
However, Hermosilla allegedly failed to control his vehicle and sideswiped the southbound passenger jeepney with plate number GWM 972 driven by Laureto before ramming into the rear end of the freezer van.
Because of the impact, Damayo’s legs were trapped and it took the traffic personnel almost an hour to carefully take her out of the passenger seat.
Manulat said Damayo’s husband told them his wife will still be able to keep her legs after a thorough operation.
Hermosilla is now detained at the Danao City Traffic Group office pending the filing of reckless imprudence resulting to physical injuries and damage to property charges against him.
Manulat said the area where the accident happened classified by their office as accident prone because of its slippery asphalt.
He said they had already raised the technical concern to the Traffic Commission that will in turn forward it to the Department of Public Works and Highways for action. — Ferliza C. Contratista/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
