3 school buildings turned over to city mountain barangays

-

CEBU - The Cebu City government yesterday turned over three school buildings amounting to P18 million to the three mountain barangays in the city.

Augusto “Joy” Young, the city consultant for education, said the school building with 12 classrooms for the Buhisan Elementary School is worth P8 million. The funding came from the City’s School Board.

The two other school buildings are for barangay Toong, which was funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways, and for barangay Pamutan, which was funded by Senator Serge Osmeña for P4.8 million.   Toong’s new school building will be used for elementary and high school and each building has six classrooms.

Acting Mayor Michael Rama and Councilor Gerardo Carillo, the chairman of the City Council committee on education, graced the turnover ceremony.

Young said the construction of another 15 school buildings is ongoing. These buildings will have more than 250 classrooms.

Young, however, said the 24 new classrooms and the additional 250 classrooms are not part of the 454 classrooms that are still needed to accommodate the more than 150,000 pupils and students in the city.
