Task force to curb motorcycle-related crimes formed

CEBU - With Region 7 leading in motorcycle- related crimes in the country, the Police Regional Office has created the “Task Force Motorcycle,” a group of policemen composed of primary special units aimed at curbing crimes perpetrated by motorcycle-riding suspects.

The task force, led by Deputy Regional Director for Operations Drusillo Bolodo, will conduct synchronized checkpoints within Cebu City and its surrounding areas.

The task force was created following crime statistics from Camp Crame, which showed that Region 7 leads in the number of motorcycle related crimes. The region recorded 205 motorcycle- related crimes from January to August this year.

But Cebu City Police Chief Patrocinio Comendador, Jr. clarified Cebu City only has 147 motorcycle- related crimes. The figure was reportedly sent to Camp Crame yesterday and Comendador hopes the data would erase the misconception that Cebu City tops in motorcycle-related robberies.

Roderos said coordination between the police and the Land Transportation Office should be strengthened in issuing license plates to owners of motorcycles. He said it should be ensure that the vehicle has similar license plates in the front and at the back.

Roderos said motorcycle-riding individuals, especially those traveling in tandem, would be strictly checked. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
