Fresh inventory of vehicles in motor pool at SRP sought

Cebu City Councilor Richard “Ritchie” Osmeña recommended a fresh inventory of vehicles and properties placed in the city’s motor pool at the South Road Properties.

He said the purpose of the fresh inventory is to check if properties have indeed been stolen from the unsecured motor pool area.

“Vehicles which are already beyond economical repair are placed in the area, but there is no inventory as to how many of them and which are to be auctioned,” Osmeña said in his report to the City Council.

Osmeña was tasked by Vice Mayor Michael Rama to investigate the reported rampant stealing of vehicle parts and other properties placed in the city’s motor pool at the SRP and at the city’s impounding area in the North Reclamation Area.

He had found out that sheets of galvanized irons at the SRP-based motor pool were stolen, but that the incident was only reported in the blotter without any updates on whether the suspects have been identified or arrested.

Osmeña said that if the area where the motor pool is situated would be made as its permanent location, then it should be fenced to caution trespassers.

The motor pool is only a few meters away from the Inayawan Sanitary Landfill. Four civilian police assets secure the place on a 12-hour shift.

Osmeña suggested that there should be additional lighting facilities to be placed at the motor pool because only two electric posts are being installed there.

On Wednesday, Osmeña will report the results of his investigation into the reported stealing of properties, including impounded vehicles. — Rene U. Borromeo/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
