CEBU - A shooting frenzy seems to pervade Cebu City lately, the latest incidents last Sunday left three men dead.
The first incident happened in barangay Labangon past 5 p.m. when, as he was walking along A. Lopez Street, victim Wellan Bacalla, 41, was approached by a certain “Blas” who, without any provocation, shot him.
Bacalla died just a few minutes after he was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center. The suspect was able to flee but responding policemen found a shell from a .45 caliber firearm at the crime scene.
Two hours later, 43-year-old Lino Bedrijo, a cigarette vendor, met his untimely death when the suspect, 54-year-old Servando Licaros, shot him without provocation.
Bedrijo was vending his goods along Logarta Street in barangay San Roque when he was shot.
The victim’s live-in partner, Mayla Saldo, 38, witnessed the incident and identified Licaros, a laborer at the Carbon Market. Licaros was subsequently arrested and told the police he wanted to avenge because Bedrijo stole his pushcart.
The third victim, Jerson Sormillon, was sitting along the road in barangay Sawang Calero when he was shot by a still unidentified assailant. The suspect immediately fled while Sormillon died yesterday morning. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
