2 separate incidents Sunday: Japanese is shot dead; robbers shoot German

CEBU - Japanese national Yasuaki Matsura was shot dead in Compostela town by his brother-in-law while German national Marx Herbert Gunter is in serious condition after he was shot by robbers in Asturias town in northwestern Cebu.

According to reports reaching the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), Matsura was allegedly shot by Christopher Tariman at Little Marikina, sitio Lutao, barangay Estaca, Compostela at 8:30 in the evening Sunday.

CPPO Director Sr. Supt. Carmelo Valmoria said Matsura’s wife Jinky, a sister of Tariman, is currently in Japan. The Japanese man reportedly went to Compostela to settle money matters with the suspect.

At the height of their argument, Tariman allegedly pulled out a caliber .45 pistol and shot the Japanese in the forehead. Matsura died on the spot.

Tariman immediately fled the scene.

A slug and a caliber .45 pistol were recovered from the scene. Tariman surrendered to the police yesterday afternoon.

In another incident earlier Sunday night, 65-year-old German national Gunter was attacked by three unidentified robbers, who barged into his residence in sitio Quarry, barangay San Roque, Asturias town.

The victim was cooking dinner at one of the two houses and went out to get something from the second house when the robbers struck upon his return.

Valmoria said that the German was shot three times during the scuffle and was brought to South General Hospital in Naga City where he is now recuperating.

Valmoria said that the police are still trying to check how much money and what items were taken by the robbers.

The robbers, who were reportedly not wearing masks, are believed to be from the place, Valmoria said. — Ferliza C. Contratista/NLQ  (THE FREEMAN)
