-

CEBU – A burglar broke into the house of a Japanese businessman, stole a cash of P2.6 million and 630,000 yen, and used the victim’s car as getaway vehicle.

The incident happened at 3388 Rubi Street, Casals Village, barangay Mabolo, Cebu City early morning yesterday.

Junyu Takahashi, 48, who operates a business in the city, told police that the suspect, who was identified as Christopher Tariman, later returned the stolen money to his other house in Estaca, Compostela without being detected. But the victim’s black Nissan March car is nowhere to be found.

It was learned that Takahashi and the suspect are neighbors in Compostela.

Accompanied by his private secretary, Lileth Gigante, 18, who claimed to have witnessed Tariman carry out the crime, Takahashi reported the incident to Mabolo Police Station.

The victim alleged that at 12:15 a.m., the suspect broke into his house and took the safety box containing the cash and a passbook.

Takahashi further alleged that Tariman also used his black Nissan March car as a getaway vehicle.

The police immediately conducted ocular investigation and follow-up operation while the victim was advised to file the appropriate complaint against the suspect.

SPO4 Riolito Jacalan, chief investigator at Mabolo Police Station, said the victim later decided to no longer file a case after the stolen money were recovered at his house in Compostela.

The police are still conducting hot pursuit operation for the retrieval of the stolen vehicle. – Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
