Liloan seeks donation of rotting seized logs

-

CEBU – The municipal government of Liloan is requesting the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-7 to donate all confiscated logs reportedly left rotting at the Bantay Dagat guard house in barangay Poblacion.

Mayor Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco already signed the resolution requesting the agency to donate the seized logs that have reportedly been stocked at the said Bantay Dagat guard house since 2005.

These logs were seized by a joint team from the Naval Forces Center and the local Bantay Dagat.

The hot logs were placed under the jurisdiction of the DENR after the owner of the motor banca, used in transporting the said logs, failed to present registration papers. But now, three years later, the logs are still at the Bantay Dagat office, already rotting.

“If the DENR donates the confiscated logs to the government, these would be put into productive use as construction materials,” a resolution by the town council said.

“Feeling sorry for the almost wasted state of the seized logs, the LGU of Liloan, itself in need of construction materials for its many projects, including a decent office for its Bantay Dagat operatives, has raised the idea of making good use of whatever could be salvaged from these logs,” it added. — Garry B.
