DepEd office plans transfer to old site

-

Capitol consultant on museum affairs Jojo Bersales said that the Department of Education Cebu provincial office plans to transfer to the old Integrated Provincial Health Office in Lahug as the Museo sa Sugbo of the Province of Cebu does not have enough space.

Presently, the DepEd provincial office is sharing space with the museum located at the old Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center along M.J. Cuenco Ave., barangay Tejero.

“With that, the entire old provincial jail will be occupied by the Museo sa Sugbo,” Bersales said.

Aside from preserving historical articles, they will also expand the museum into an information office where visitors and students can learn about Cebu, he said.

According to Bersales, they are also planning to put up a library and office for the preservation of historical documents, as well as research rooms.

The Museo sa Sugbo is patterned after the National Historical Institute Museum. It is in line with Gov. Gwen Garcia’s campaign to preserve the culture and heritage of the province.

Committee on sites, relics and structures co-chairman Ruel Rigor also said the heritage caravan workshop in the Province of Cebu is now ongoing.

Rigor said that there were towns that failed to develop a concept in preserving their heritage sites, although there were some that were able to draft systems in preserving their relics and structures.

Apart from the museum, the province will also come up with a 55-volume book depicting the history of the province and its towns and cities.

The province is also encouraging the towns to build their own museums. Carcar City and Tuburan town had already opened their own museums to the public. — Garry B. Lao/BRP
