Prov'l gov't to help develop Borbon river

CEBU - Governor Gwen Garcia and the Provincial Board assured municipal officials of Borbon town that they will provide financial support for the development of Silmugi River as one of the tourist destinations of the town.

Garcia, Vice Governor Greg Sanchez, Jr. and members of the PB visited Borbon yesterday for the consultative meeting and out-of-town session of the PB.

Borbon Mayor Bernard “Butch” Sepulveda and Vice Mayor Neal Vergara presented to Garcia the plan of the municipal government to develop Silmugi River into an eco-tourism site and said they need the support of the provincial government for the realization of the plan.

Recently, a Simulgi Commission was formed headed by Vergara. Among the ideas they have is to have boating services along the river and build a floating restaurant.

Garcia said that the provincial government will fully support the plan of the municipal government.

She and the PB members visited the Silmugi River yesterday.

Board member Agnes Magpale, chairwoman of the committee on tourism at the provincial board, also said some members of the PB are willing to allocate funds for the development of the Silmugi River.

As this developed, the municipal officials also want the Silmugi Festival held next year during the fiesta celebration in honor of San Sebastian Martyr.

Garcia said the festival will be an added attraction to the Capitol’s program in promoting other tourist events.
