CEBU – A 44-year-old man sustained serious injuries after being hacked by his drinking buddy in Medellin town the other day.
Police officers led by SPO1 Roland Reyes together with PO1 Joel Magdadaro of the Medellin Police said that the suspect, identified as Gregorio Rivera, 69, a resident of sitio Dawis, Lamintak Norte in Medellin hacked a certain Fidelis Ortega without provocation last Saturday.
It was learned that Ortega was having a session with his drinking buddies when Rivera reportedly joined them. The suspect was noticed to have already been drunk when he joined the group.
But while the group was engaged in a chat, Rivera who was said to be intoxicated with liquor pulled out his 17-inch long axe and reportedly hacked Ortega.
The victim sustained wounds on the left side of his head and another on his left shoulder.
The axe was believed to be used by the suspect for chopping wood and for splitting coconuts, initial investigations disclosed.
Residents of the place said that Rivera is already known for being a bully and for causing trouble every time he gets drunk.
Ortega was rushed to the Severo Verallo Hospital, while Rivera is now detained at the Medellin municipal jail. Appropriate charges are set to be filed against him today. — Cressida Paula G. Delmo/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
