Farmer shot dead in Danao

CEBU – A farmer was found dead by his family members after he had been shot by three men in barangay Bayabas, Danao City, last Friday morning.

The victim, who was identified as Deogracias Amancio Hermoso, 49, a resident of the area, sustained two gunshot wounds from an unknown caliber of firearm and was killed instantly.

SPO4 Teofilo Deguilmo of Danao City Police Station said that based on the accounts of the victim’s son, Jurel Hermoso, his father could have been shot while he was walking home from drinking with some relatives.

Jurel initially claimed his father was shot once in the abdomen and again in the mouth, with the bullet exiting through his nape.

But Deguilmo said investigations led by duty investigator Rodrigo Roble revealed the victim sustained only one gunshot in his mouth which could have been the reason of the victim’s death.

Yesterday, three men surrendered themselves before the barangay’s captain claiming they were the ones who killed Deogracias.

The suspects were identified as Jun Rey Castro, 19; Roel Tanana, 22; and Noel Castro, also farmers and residents of the said barangay.

The police are still conducting follow-up investigations to determine the motive of the killing while the suspects are now detained at Danao City police station while waiting for the charges that the family of the victim will be filing against them. — Cressida Paula G. Delmo/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
