548 marijuana stalks uprooted in Balamban
CEBU – Two hundred fifteen fully-grown marijuana stalks and 333 more seedlings, or a total of 548 stalks, were uprooted by the police in sitio Taro, barangay Bayong, Balamban, Cebu last Friday morning.
A team of policemen led by C/Insp. Resty Santos conducted an operation after receiving information from officers of the Barangay Intelligence Network about the marijuana plantation.
Police said the plants were discovered in an uninhabited area located some 30 kilometers away from barangay Poblacion, Balamban.
Responding police said the owner of the plants, which stood taller than an average person, may not have yet been harvested for fear of being caught by police once these are transported. Santos said his colleagues were just visiting the area as part of their regular routine of conducting weekly monitoring of the barangays.
But upon their arrival, members of BIN informed them about the plantation of marijuana in the area that prompted the police to go to the site and uproot the plants.
Record shows this is the third time this year that marijuana plants were uprooted in Balamban. The recent one yielded the most number of stalks uprooted.
Presently, the police are waiting for the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency to give the go signal to burn the uprooted marijuana plants. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
