LGUs urged to vote for RP entries to 7 Wonders
CEBU – The League of Provinces of the Philippines has passed a resolution urging all governors and other local government units to support and vote for the Tubbataha Reef in Palawan, Chocolate Hills of Bohol, Mayon Volcano of Albay and Underground River of Puerto Princesa City for their inclusion in the “New Seven Wonders of Nature.”
Introduced by Bohol Gov. Erico Aumentado and Joel Mario Reyes of Palawan, the resolution said that four wonders in the Philippines are candidates for the contest.
“There is an imperative need for the League of Provinces of the Philippines spearheaded in securing votes for Tubbataha reef, Chocolate Hills, the Underground River and the Mayon Volcano, in order that their inclusion among the 21 finalists, and ultimately their selection in the New 7 Wonders of Nature, can be realized,” the resolution reads.
The League of Provinces of the Philippines had its session last Thursday and Friday at the Marco Polo Hotel.
Recently, Cebu Provincial Board Member Victor Maambong passed a resolution asking Cebuanos to cast their votes for the Chocolate Hills, which can be found in Carmen, Bohol.
Aside from the Chocolate Hills, Maambong said the Tubbataha Reef in the Sulu Sea and the Underground River in Puerto Princesa, Palawan and Mayon Volcano also deserve the Cebuanos’ support.
The voting for the “New Seven Wonders of Nature” will be open until Dec. 31.
Afterward, a panel of experts will trim the 77 nominees to 21 and the last round of voting will be held until the end of 2009. The top seven vote-getters will be declared the “New Seven Wonders of Nature” in 2010.
The voting is done by logging on at www.new7wonders.com where seven candidates will be voted on. — Garry B. Lao/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
