Sidewalk vendor hit by stray bullet

CEBU - A sidewalk vendor was hit by a stray bullet believed to have come from an exchange of fire between gang members early dawn in barangay Mabolo yesterday.

Investigation by the police revealed that 58-year-old Abundia Cuyosa, a resident of the barangay, was selling noodles along A. Soriano Street when five men, allegedly members of a gang, were exchanging fire using “pugakhang” or home-made guns just a few meters from where she was situated. Cuyosa was accidentally hit in her left heel, which landed her to the Cebu City Medical Center.

Police arrested two of those involved in the firing- Victoriano Recta, 21, and a 16-year-old minor. The three others were able to flee. The Mabolo police also seized two firearms and live ammunitions from the suspects.

Charges for illegal possession of firearms were filed against Recta while the minor was brought to the Department of Social Welfare and Development. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/JMO (The Freeman)
