Web-sharing for better learning
CEBU - Teachers and students may now utilize the computer and internet technology in producing and sharing web-based information about their respective communities.
This after SMART Communications recently launched a program called “Doon Po Sa Amin,” which means “In Our Place” under the Smart Schools Program, its flagship community service in education.
Smart Schools Program (SSP) promotes Information and Communications Technology in basic education through partnership with public elementary and high schools, its officials and parents-teacher-community associations.
It seeks to provide public schools with access to the internet, access to online education and content and teacher training.
In Cebu, there are about five elementary schools, four colleges and 12 high schools SSP partners forming the 150 total public high school partners and 30 public elementary schools partners nationwide.
Some of these schools are Mandaue City National High School, National Science High School, University of Cebu-main, University of Cebu-Banilad, Don Bosco Technological School and Abellana National High School.
The Doon Po Sa Amin is a four-year online user content generation that mobilizes members of the partner schools to do community mapping, which will be shared to millions of internet users worldwide.
Part of the project’s component is a competition where students and teachers in groups will be working for a comprehensive and substantive feature or article about something unique or interesting in their community.
Topics range from Math, Science and environment, health and wellness, technology and livelihood, language and literature, arts and culture and social science.
According to SMART, this initiative will encourage or develop interests of students and teachers to participate in web-projects which can later be information sources in the community.
Doon Po Sa Amin has also provided web-related trainings, online promos and an incentive program.
SMART Public Affairs head Mon Isberto said the company is now opening SSP to internet users other than their partner schools.
