CEBU - A councilwoman of barangay Tonggo, San Fernando town, has been charged with abuse of authority, theft, trespass to dwelling, and grave oral defamation by one of her constituents before the provincial prosecutor’s office last Friday.
Councilwoman Apolonia de la Cerna Caño has been charged by Perfecto Villariasa for allegedly entering his house without permission last August 24 and stealing his money that was placed inside a cabinet.
In his affidavit, Villariasa said that on the evening of August 24, Caño arrived together with some policemen, barged inside his house, and then searched for something inside his cabinet.
When the complainant asked her what she was searching for, Caño reportedly replied that she was looking for the “antogon” or the three coins used in a game of toss coins locally called “hantak”.
However, Caño did not find anything. When Villariasa asked her if she has a search warrant to justify her action, Caño reportedly pointed a finger at him and snapped “ikaw gisugo ka’s kapitan nga magpasugal”.
After the councilwoman had left, Villariasa said he checked on his belongings and found out that cash worth P30,000 he said he placed in his wallet was gone.
Villariasa suspects it was the kagawad who took his cash while the search was conducted. — Jasmin R. Uy/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
