Liloan teachers get wage raise

Teachers in Liloan being paid by the town’s local school board will be getting an additional P1,000 from the local government, said Liloan Mayor Vincent “Duke” Frasco.

“Education is an important priority in this administration… You are the ones who are qualified to teach our children, the future of Liloan. You have my trust and confidence,” Frasco told the teachers gathered to discuss preparations for the upcoming provincial meet.

With the increase, the 27 teachers in the primary level and 22 teachers in the secondary level being paid for by the local school board of Liloan will already be getting P7,000 as monthly salary.

Frasco said the increase is line with the town’s goal to prioritize education. He said he is now looking at means to improve the situations in the classrooms to meet his target of a 1:40 teacher-student ratio by next year.

He observed that classrooms are already overpopulated and that some teachers are even handling 80 students in one class.

“I had known that our classrooms are overpopulated, but I did not know that they are that overpopulated. Some teachers are even handling 80 in a classroom,” Frasco said.

He said he is also looking for ways to add more classrooms for Liloan’s public elementary and high schools.

Early this year, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia inaugurated a two-classroom building at the Arcelo Memorial High School in barangay San Vicente through Frasco’s initiative.
