Man sued for murder
A 38-year-old man was charged with murder at the Regional Trial Court yesterday for allegedly killing his neighbor in sitio Babao, barangay Inayawan last July 22.
Glenn Ababon, who is now detained at the Cebu City Police Office, was accused of killing, reportedly for no apparent provocation, Anecito Fernandez who was watching a card game in a neighbor’s house at the time.
The victim’s wife, Rowena filed the murder charges against Ababon, who was their neighbor. A witness, Lorna Samson, claimed that she saw the suspect coming out of his house, armed with a knife and stabbed Fernandez dead.
Assistant city prosecutor Liceria Lofranco-Rabillas, in her clarificatory investigation, said there were witnesses who said that the victim was just watching a card game when attacked allegedly by Ababon.
Two barangay Inayawan officials also alleged that Ababon, when he surrendered to them, admitted committing the crime and said that finally he “was able to get back at the victim.”
Ababon however insisted to the prosecutor that he was only defending himself and it was Fernandez who attacked by punching him and stabbing him with a knife.
He said that he was able to parry Fernandez’s attacks, wrestled and got the knife, which he then used to stab the latter. —Jasmin R. Uy/RAE
