A drunken man was beaten black and blue by his son after he reportedly stabbed his own wife and his mother yesterday dawn in their house along Mar Street in Villa Cristina Subdivision, barangay Punta Princesa.
Homicide investigators said the victims, identified as Miraluna Echavez, 41, a clinical instructor at a private hospital in the city, and Gloria Echavez, 62, sustained stab wounds in different parts of their bodies.
The suspect, Franklin Lopez Echavez, 41, is also now recuperating at the Cebu City Medical Center for head injuries after he was mauled by his 18-year-old son, Mikhail.
Mikhail defended his mother, grandmother and his sister from his father’s abuse by kicking and punching him and eventually struck him with a block of cement in the head rendering the suspect unconscious.
According to police, the incident happened when Gloria scolded his son Franklin for coming home drunk but the suspect allegedly got irked and went to their room where his wife was sleeping.
Few minutes later, the couple reportedly got into heated altercation prompting Miraluna to leave the room and went to the dining room. However, Franklin allegedly chased her with a knife and without warning stabbed her several times in the different parts of the body.
Gloria, who heard the commotion and Miraluna’s cry for help immediately went to the dining room and tried to prevent the suspect, who in turn vented his ire on his mother and her in the upper right chest.
The commotion roused the couple’s children who hurriedly went out of their room and check.
Upon seeing his father attacking the two women, Mikhail punched and kicked his father who fell on the floor, and helped the elder women out of the house for safety.
But as Gloria was about to lock the gate behind her, the suspect appeared and reportedly punched her and then chased his family. Miraluna, who was already weak due to stab wounds, was caught by the suspect and tried to strangle her.
This prompted Mikhail to pick up a cement block and smashed it into his father’s head sending him unconscious.
Both women were rushed to Miller Hospital with their relatives and neighbors while the suspect was still unconscious when rushed by responding Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation to the CCMC where the police put him under arrest.
