Roast pig trader cheats death by skin of his nose

A man engaged in selling lechon smelled the scent of death yesterday when a bullet missed his head and merely grazed the side of his nose.

Leonardo Ramin, 57, co-owner of Helen’s Lechon along Archbishop Reyes Ave. could have been shot in the head had he not turned his face at the same time the assailant fired at him.

Investigators of the Homicide Section said Ramin was standing in front of his store yesterday morning and was waiting for the roasted pig for delivery to a customer when two men in crash helmets arrived on board a red motorcycle.

Instead of disembarking, however, the man at the back pulled out a gun and fired at Ramin, just as the latter turned his face towards the store.  Shocked at what happened, Ramin immediately ran inside the store.

Nobody was able to take note of the motorcycle’s plate number.  SPO2 Rey Cuyos of the homicide police said they are now looking into the possible connection of yesterday’s shooting to another incident last December wherein Ramin’s business rival, Arrol Adolfo, was shot dead and Ramin’s son, Junard, was tagged as one of the alleged suspects.

Adolfo was also a co-owner of another lechon outlet located just beside Helen’s lechon.  — Edwin Ian Melecio/JMO
