Osmeña bans Akrho from holding caravan
The Alpha Kapha Rho (Akhro) fraternity will no longer be allowed to conduct a motor caravan in
Mayor Tomas Osmeña said yesterday that he will grant the request of the police to deny other road caravan permits applied for by the notorious fraternity group as one way to prevent possible trouble in its next year’s anniversary.
Osmeña, however announced that he is happy when he learned that the fraternity-related incidents this year had went down as compared to 2007.
The trouble between warring fraternities had reduced after the mayor encouraged them to come closer to the mainstream of the society and to act as peaceful citizens.
The mayor had repeatedly announced that he is not against the fraternity or any organization because it is his policy that only those who commit crimes should be made answerable to the law.
During Akrho’s anniversary the other day, police have arrested some of its members for alleged public disturbance for lighting firecrackers in front of a university along
There were also reports that some Akhro members, who were easily recognized by their usual outfit, boarded passenger jeepneys and did not pay their fares, ignoring the drivers’ call for them to pay.
“Mga abusado g’yod kaayo ning mga sakop sa Akhro. Nagtoo na g’yod tingali sila nga mga hawod na kaayo mao na nga kanunay silang makasugat og away sa mga sakop sa laing fraternity,” said Simeon, a member of another fraternity group.
But Osmeña said the city is not blaming the fraternity’s leaders because it is the individual members who commit the crimes.
The mayor said that because of the kind of treatment that the city gives to fraternity groups, fraternity violence in the city was reduced to over 90 percent for the past two years. — Rene U. Borromeo/WAB
