Osmeña lashes back at Capitol

-

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and City Mayor Tomas Osmeña are still at it.

For calling him a gay, Osmeña yesterday lashed back at Garcia by calling her “Zorra,” referring to the recent picture that came out of a newspaper showing the governor sporting a sweet smile while being escorted by an unidentified man playing the film character Zorro.

“What can I say? I don’t know how to answer that. Why, is she jealous? Who is my lover, Mike Rama or Jun Pe?” the amused mayor said in a press conference yesterday.

Rama is his vice mayor while Pe is one of the city’s councilors.

The verbal tussle between Garcia and Osmeña has gone public following the failed lot swap deal that later resulted to threats of evicting some 5,000 families who are occupying the Capitol-owned lots.

The governor was earlier asked by the members of the press about their “quarrel” where she replied “Unsa man diay tawag nimo sa tawong magsigi ug pangaway ug babye, di ba bayot?”

But Osmeña retaliated by saying the governor is “having a fantasy that her boyfriend is Zorro while she is Zorra.”

Meanwhile, Osmeña said that the city government will be in good terms with the Capitol if the city gets an assurance that the more than 5,000 residents who occupy the 93-1 lots occupants will not be evicted.

“She (Garcia) wants to be belligerent on this. You (Garcia) can’t boost this mayor around. It is my obligation to take care of this city. There will be no compromise with the province as long as the lives of the 5,000 residents are not being secured. We will not give them an easy time in Cebu City,” the mayor said.

Osmeña added that he is not just taking care of the rich constituents but the poor constituents as well.

“I bring in business to the city more than the governor have ever imagined,” he added. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/WAB
