Prov’l Board approves Danao City ordinance

-

The implementation of the odd-even scheme for trisikads in Danao City got the green light from the Cebu Provincial Board.

Provincial Board Member Peter John Calderon, chairman of the PB committee on laws and ordinances, reported that the committee approved Danao City’s ordinance creating the scheme, acknowledging the concerns on the safety of the motorists and pedestrians.

The odd-even scheme alternately regulates trisikads to ply the streets through their plate numbers with the reference point is the date of the month.

Trisikads with odd plate numbers are to operate on the first day while those with even plate numbers will operate the next day and so on, alternately

However, before the ordinance will be implemented, Calderon pointed out that the Danao City government must first published it in a newspaper pursuant to Section 511 of the Republic Act of 7160, otherwise the Local Government Code.

Under the ordinance, violators will be penalized P50 and reprimanded for the first offense, P100 and confiscation of license for one month for the second offense, and revocation of license and fine of P500 for third violation.

“The ordinance is created purposely to prevent street encroachments or obstructions that might cause heavy traffic. This ordinance concerns on the safety and convenience of the motorists as well of the hikers,” Calderon’s report said. — Garry B. Lao/LPM
