A 6-year-old girl died after a cruising multi-cab hit her when she crossed the provincial highway in sitio Guila-guila of barangay Bagagalang in Compostela Wednesday.
The girl, a kindergarten pupil, was rushed to the Danao City General Hospital where she was declared her dead on arrival.
Town traffic policeman, SPO1 Silas Ceballo, said the victim was playing with other children near the road. “Bag-o pa lang gawas sa klase. Nagpakaliring man na sila (children) sa karsada,” he said.
“Didto gyud ni siya (victim) nasulod sa ilawom sa multicab,” Ceballo told The FREEMAN.
The multi-cab driver, Carlito Bugtal, voluntarily surrendered to the Compostela Police Station. He claimed that he blew his horn at the children but as his vehicle came near them, the girl suddenly crossed the road.
Ceballo said that the family of the victim would however not file charges against Bugtal for as long as he would shoulder the funeral expenses.
Bugtal’s multicab was laden with fruits from the town’s barangay Mulao and was on its way to the poblacion. — Joy Kareen T. Saliente/RAE
