A suspect in the robbery of the Ngohiong Express House and of a couple in barangay Tejero last July 9 has been charged with two counts of robbery and possession of illegal drugs after his arrest inside a hospital where he sought for treatment for a gunshot wound.
Rolando Ancajas Mijarito was identified as one of the robbers wounded by responding policemen.
Mijarito was arrested by the members of the Waterfront police station led by SPO4 Joselito Palang while being treated inside the Cebu City Medical Center.
Palang responded to the robbery alarm that day then brought with them the victims, including spouses Juvy and Nenita Retes, in looking for the suspects who had escaped.
Soon after, they spotted Mijarito standing near an entrance of an alley in sitio Silangan, barangay Tejero, but when they tried to approach him, the latter ran toward the interior part of the place.
Mijarito even shot at, but failed to hit, the pursuing policemen who fired back, hitting him in his leg. He was able to escape but was later traced to the city hospital where he was arrested.
The police said that Mijarito has just been released from jail. He was again committed to the city jail yesterday because of the three new charges that he is facing.
On top of the two robbery cases, each of which carries a recommended bail of P100,000, Mejarito is also charged with possession of illegal drugs after a pack of shabu was allegedly found from his possession during his arrest. — Fred P. Languido/RAE
