Men on bikes shoot two dead

Two men were killed in separate shooting incidents in the city yesterday perpetrated by masked men on motorcycles.

Homicide investigators identified the first fatality as piano technician and proprietor Norbert Sumicad, a resident of Katipunan St. barangay Tisa.

The victim died while being treated at Cebu City Medical Center due to gunshot wound to the back of his head.

The victim was shot right in front of his repair shop the Sumicad Piano Repair Shop in Tisa by one of two men riding tandem on a red motorcycle.

SPO1 Geoffrey Gutual of the Homicide Section told The FREEMAN that the shooter was estimated to be in his 30s is wearing a ball cap while the driver was wearing a crash helmet.

The shooter reportedly approached the victim who was standing outside his shop and pretended to inquire on pianos while the other man stopped a few meters ahead.

After their conversation, the shooter shot him at the back of his head and his accomplice went to pick him up, the two were last seen heading towards barangay Punta Princesa.

The brother of the victim, Niño, rushed the victim to the hospital where he died a few minutes later.

Gutual said they already have a lead into the killing but declined to reveal further details.

Two hours later, a 52-year old man was shot dead by two men riding tandem on a motorcycle without plates at 3rd St. corner Gaisano St. in sitio Villagonzalo 2, in barangay Tejero.

Police identified the victim as Tomas Carbonilla, a resident of the said place who died on the spot due to two gunshot wounds to the face and another to the right side of the chest.

PO1 Lou Pagara of the Homicide Section said that Carbonilla was talking to his neighbor Ben Busikias beside the road when two unidentified men stopped near them.

The man riding pillion reportedly disembarked and approached the two and without warning shot Carbonilla in the chest and face.  The bullet entered his chin and exited from the back of his head.

The shooter then calmly got back on the waiting motorcycle and sped off towards 2nd St.

According to Pagara, the victim’s daughter Miriam claimed the victim does not have any known enemies and was never convicted or accused of any crime.

But police believe that the victim is the target as they left Busikias unharmed, they recovered two empty .45 cal. shells at the crime scene.   Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
