726 dengue cases recorded in city

-

The Cebu City’s Epidemiology Statistics and Surveillance Unit recorded a total of 726 dengue cases from January to June this year, 31 of which involved death.

Data from the CESSU also revealed that 52.1 percent of those who succumbed to dengue in the city are men. A comparison with last year’s records revealed that the number of cases in the same period is 157.44 percent higher.

Only 282 cases and three deaths were recorded during the same period in 2007.

While the recorded cases this year are generally higher compared to those recorded last year, records show that there is a similar trend in both years, as far as the occurrence of cases is concerned.

A graphic provided by the surveillance unit would show that dengue attack was strongest in January this year and last year but was lowest in May, the peak of summer.

This year, three deaths each were recorded in barangays Guadalupe, Tisa, and Talamban. Two deaths each were recorded from barangays Labangon, Inayawan, Bulacao and Sambag1.

Meanwhile, one death each were recorded in Mabolo, Basak Pardo, Cogon Pardo, Capitol Site, Punta Princesa, T. Padilla, Apas, Sambag II, Pahina Central, Cogon Ramos, Toong and Santo Niño.

Barangays with no cases of dengue from January to June 2008 include Agsungot, Babag I, Babag II, Buot Taup, Malubog, Pahina San Nicolas, Pamutan, Paril, Pit-os, Pung-ol, Sinsin, Sudlon I, Sudlon II, Sapangdaku, Tabunan, Tagbao and Taptap. — Joeberth M. Ocao/LPM
