Mactan Rock denies MCWD allegation

-

Mactan Rock Industries Inc., one of the major suppliers of the Metropolitan Cebu Water District, denied allegations that it failed to supply water for two weeks.

Lito Maderazo, Mactan Rock president, admitted there was a certain period, but not for two weeks, that their production went down because one of their desalination plants did not operate because it underwent maintenance.

Despite that, he said they were still able to deliver the required 5,000 cubic meters a day, which is the requirement under their contract with MCWD.

Maderazo reacted to the earlier complain of MCWD spokesperson Terry Andaya that for about two weeks, in the middle of June, Mactan Rock was not able to supply enough water to them.

“May be it was during the time when one of our machines did not operate because of maintenance. But it is not true that we were not able to supply water to them for two weeks,” he stressed.

Maderazo cited their production report for the month of June that said Mactan Rock was able to deliver an average of 5,060 cubic meters of water to MCWD.

The report said that Mactan Rock’s production started to drop below the required 5,000 cubic meters a day from June 16 to June 25. It added that on June 23, it was only able to deliver 1,605 cubic meters of water to MCWD.

“Like other plants, there are times that there are fluctuations in our supply. But we have contractual obligations with them and we are still to comply with that. Naanad tingali sila nga we are delivering more than 6,000 cubic meters daily,” Maderazo explained.

He said Mactan Rock has entered into a 10-year contract with MCWD in 1998 for the supply of desalinated water of 5,000 cubic meters a day with a price of P17 per cubic meter.

The contract will expire in December this year. - Wenna A. Berondo/LPM
