DILG warns vs. “media” using agency’s name
The regional office of the Department of Interior and Local Government is warning the public against unscrupulous individuals who are using the name of media and the government agency to solicit donations.
This after DILG received reports that a defunct tri-media organization has been claiming it is affiliated with the agency, using DILG’s name and logo in its letterheads and identification cards to solicit money allegedly to fund DILG-authorized projects. The DILG-7 said reports from its field offices identified the group as DILG Tri-Media Organization headed by dzME reporter Tommy Abile.
In an advisory, the DILG said that the organization has even sold its identification cards with the DILG logo to the chapters and sub-chapters that it has organized in different places outside
“Let it be known that the DILG Tri-Media Organization, including its chapters and sub-chapters, is not in any way affiliated with the Department, nor it is recognized as the official media group covering the DILG beat,” the DILG said in a press release sent to The FREEMAN.
Further, it explained that the DILG Tri-Media Organization was no longer recognized by the DILG after the election of the new set of officers and the formation of the new group in December 2007 called the DILG Press Corps.
“The DILG Tri-Media Organization, its chapters and sub-chapters are not authorized to use the name and logo of the department in its letterheads, ID cards and other forms of printed communications, or conduct solicitation drives in the guise that these are DILG-authorized projects,” the press release further read.
With this, DILG advised the public to be cautious in dealing with the said organization, particularly their requests for solicitations and donations. — Wenna A. Berondo/BRP
