P6M for landslide victims, rehabilitation projects

-

The Cebu City government had already appropriated more than P6 million for the food expenses of the landslide victims in the city’s upland barangays and for the various rehabilitation projects in those areas.

Councilor Gerardo Carillo said a total of P3.6 million, from the city’s calamity fund, would be spent to cover the cost needed for the repair and rehabilitation of the road in barangay Guba.

Barangay officials earlier requested the city for help in funding the rehabilitation of the road in their areas to ensure the safety of motorists.

Carillo said another P1.5 million has been set aside for the rehabilitation and construction of a footbridge in barangay Kalunasan, which is one of the means of access to the Langub Shrine in that barangay.

Residents had been asking the city’s help, citing the danger the area poses to people especially during downpour.

The councilor said another P800,000 would be spent to shoulder the cost of the food provided to the victims of landslides that occurred in barangays Guba, Sirao, Sapangdaku, Babag, Buot-taup, Sudlon 1, Mabini, and Sinsin.

The city has fed the families that were evacuated from Sinsin’s danger areas to the sports complex in barangay Sudlon 1.

Another P187,339 was appropriated to compensate the owners of the crops and other agricultural plants destroyed by the road construction works being undertaken now in Sudlon I, said Carillo. — Rene U. Borromeo/RAE
