A taxi driver was killed after he was stabbed by two men, who the police believed were robbers, during an apparent fight inside his vehicle along B. Rodriguez Avenue in barangay Capitol Site Sunday evening.
Police investigators said the victim, 36-year-old Edgar Lim, sustained a stab wound near his left clavicle or collar bone.
Lim, a resident of Basak-Tagunol and driver of VNM and Sons taxi (with license plate GVY-512), was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Initial investigations stated that Lim’s car was first seen parked at a gasoline station when two unidentified men disembarked in a hurry and fled towards an interior portion of a residential area near the TB Pavillon.
Shortly after, the taxi was seen speeding off while zigzagging on the road. It hit the Toyota Vios car of businessman Roel Sarmiento but still continued running towards VSMMC where it hit a parked vehicle near a bakery before it finally stopped.
A resident in the area, identified as Noel delos Reyes, 31, quickly peeped into the cab and saw the bloodied driver. He quickly rushed Lim to the hospital
SPO1 Rogelio Nedamo told The FREEMAN that Lim might have tried to fight off the two men and got stabbed as a result.
Police, who recovered the victim’s pocket with P520 cash, are still looking for witnesses who could have seen the faces of the assailants. — Edwin Ian Melecio/RAE
