Man’s body found in Tuburan waters

The body of 42-year-old Nicolas Brizo, with head injuries, was found floating on the seas of Tuburan Friday afternoon.

Tuburan policeman, SPO2 Carlo Canseco, said Brizo was last seen alive minutes earlier carrying a container of tuba, or coconut wine, while hopping from among the rocks that lined the shoreline of sitio Matnog in barangay Putat, Tuburan.

There were reports that Brizo was drunk at the time and was with his 10-year-old son. It was not determined though where the boy went after that. Brizo was a native of barangay Tangke in Sogod town.

Some residents of the place discovered Brizo’s body floating, fished him out of the waters, and rushed him to the Tuburan District Hospital where he was however declared dead on arrival.

According to the police, due to his drunkenness, Brizo might have slipped, hit his head on the rocks, then fell to the sea and drowned.

Relatives of the victim refused to have the body autopsied, saying that they were convinced he died simply by accident. The body was released to the victim’s cousin, Raul Brizo, who brought the remains to their hometown in Sogod. — Edwin Ian Melecio/RAE
