A family dispute that turned bloody left one dead and three injured late last night in Dagohoy St., San Antonio Village, barangay Apas.
Esmeraldo Pontanar, 41 years old, was allegedly shot dead by his brother-in-law, retired Air Force Master Sergeant Nestor Bugarin, using a .45 caliber pistol.
The three injured in the incident were identified as Cristito, Maria Glen and Paulo all surnamed Ponatanar, who were rushed to the Perpetual Succour Hospital by paramedics of the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF).
Cristito is the father of Esmeraldo while Maria Glen is the wife of the fatality and Paulo is their son.
Concepcion Alcos, sister of Esmeraldo, told the police investigators that there was an argument between Maria Glen and Anecita Bugarin, wife of the suspect.
Anecita is also a sister of Esmeraldo.
After the two women went back to their homes, which are just a few meters apart from each other, Esmeraldo reportedly arrived and there was a commotion then shots were fired, said Alcos.
Alcos added that when she got out, she saw her father, brother and nephew already sprawled on the pavement.
Police investigators said that there has been friction between the members of the family the past few years due to a property dispute.
The suspect immediately fled the scene after the shooting.
The police were still gathering evidence from the crime scene. Aside from the empty shells recovered, the operatives also found a magazine for a .45 caliber pistol with one live bullet.—Edwin Ian Melecio/NLQ
