Guv off to Europe for a 10-day visit

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia flew to Europe last night with six Provincial Board members and businessmen to sign sisterhood agreement and to promote the local furniture industry.

But before the governor left, she led the road opening in barangays Lamintak, Kawit and Tindog in the town of Medillin. The project is worth P1.3 million.

She also inaugurated the P1.2 million Kawit police substation and fire substation.

For her 10-day visit to Europe, the lady governor is accompanied by board members Agnes Magpale, Victor Maambong, Peter John Calderon, Juan Bolo, Wenceslao Gakit and Wilfredo Caminero, and some players in the furniture industry.

The delegation will visit the cities of Vienna, Bratislava, Ljubljana, Zagreb and Munich from May 28 to June 6.

A letter sent by Philippine Ambassador to Austria Linglingay Lacanlane to Austrian Ambassador Herbert Jager says Garcia’s visit will promote Cebu’s tourism and exports in Central Europe.

“This is also an opportunity to pursue discussions during the visit to the Philippines in January 2007 of the Philippine honorary consuls in Austria, Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Croatia,” the letter said.

In Ljubljana, Republic of Slovenia, the delegation will visit the President of the State Council (Senate). It will also hold a meeting with the mayor of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.

On June 3, the delegation will have a presentation with the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

During the trip, a memorandum of agreement (MOA) will be signed to “strengthen exchanges and cooperation” between the Cebu province and the city of Ljubljana represented by Mayor Zoran Jankovic.

The MOA will serve to “encourage cooperation in the fields of tourism, education, culture, industry, agriculture, science and technology, and sports for the mutual benefit, prosperity and development of both jurisdictions.”

The sisterhood relations will also pave the way for working level meetings between officials of both governments, to be hosted alternately by the parties.

On June 5, the delegation will have a meeting in Croatia with furniture importers in that country.  – Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/LPM
