Saying education is his main priority, Cebu third district Rep. Pablo John Garcia has turned over five sets of speech laboratory equipment to public schools in municipalities in his area.
The giving of the laboratory equipment, which included monitors, headsets, consuls and panels, was part of Garcia’s “Primero ang Tercero” education project.
Department of Education regional director Carolino Mordeno said the project is a first of its kind in Central Visaya. He said the equipment would help students achieve education with international standards.
The education chief admitted that there is need for speech laboratories in the province.
For his part, Garcia said “education is the priority of my administration.”
He remembered the experience of his father, former governor and now second district Rep. Pablo Garcia, who would walk five kilometers daily just to attend classes.
“The very clear example of how people would rise above the poverty,” he said of his father.
Garcia is also planning to distribute another six sets of speech laboratory equipment.
Meanwhile, Garcia said he had initial talks with officials of leading call centers to train speech teachers using their facilities.
Aside from that, he also plans to put up a public library in Balamban town before his term ends in 2010. - Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/LPM
