Grandma killed by speeding bike

A case of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide was filed yesterday against the driver of a motorcycle that hit and killed a 69-year-old woman by the side of the road in barangay Old Bago, Asturias town, around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Asturias policeman SPO1 Dennis Nocos said the victim, Leoncia Villafrancia Troco, a resident of the barangay, was walking by the side of the road at the time of the incident.

She failed to notice the motorcycle, driven by Jolito Maglinte Gotgot, a resident of barangay Lunas, coming up from behind.

Witnesses said due to the impact of the collision Troco was thrown a few meters away and her head hit the pavement hard.

Troco was rushed to the Balamban district hospital but was later transferred at around 7 p.m., to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City where she was declared dead on arrival.

Investigators said that Gotgot, who is now detained in the town’s police station, came from barangay Sta. Lucia and was going to Tuburan town when the incident took place.

“Kusog kaayu iyang padalagan sa motor unya namidpid man kuno ni sa daplin didto nadam-agan ang biktima nga naglakaw adtong tungura,” Nocos said.  — Trex Eden O. Ignacio, UP intern/RAE
