PNP warns men vs. NPA attacks

-

Regional police director Chief Supt. Ronald Roderos reminded anew all police field unit commanders to be vigilant against possible attacks by the communist New People’s Army.

The reminder of Roderos came after he received the memorandum from PNP Chief Avelino Razon who instructed the Directorate for Operations to sound off the warning to Police Regional Offices where there are active guerilla fronts of the CPP/NPA.

Last May 5, Supt. Narciso Guarin was killed after he was ambushed by at least five suspected communist rebels armed with high-caliber assault rifles while he was driving in his car to Camp Gen. Simeon Ola in Legazpi City.

The Special Partisan Units, the CPP-NPA-NDF hit squads, are reportedly intensifying assassination operations against members of the PNP, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and government officials.

“All units are advised to take appropriate actions including tactical offensive regarding this reported activities of the SPARU of the CPP-NPA-NDF,” the memorandum said.

Roderos, in his memorandum, added that all personnel are encouraged to take maximum appropriate measures for their personal safety.

Cebu provincial police director Carmelo Valmoria and Cebu City police director Patrocinio Comendador said that they have not yet received any intelligence report on planned assassinations against officials.

But nevertheless, they said they will remain vigilant.

The PNP is set to deploy 127 newly-commissioned Inspectors, who just graduated from the Philippine National Police Academy Class of 2008, to the different regional police offices.

The new officers are undergoing orientation at the National Headquarters before they are deployed to the Regional Mobile Groups in the regions.  Garry B. Lao/BRP
