The Philippine Air Force’s 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing yesterday distributed medicine, school supplies, sports equipment, and trash cans in barangay Bahay, Sibonga as a way to reach out to the people.
In his speech to the barangay residents, Brigadier General Arthur Mancenido, the wing commander, said this outreach project is just a small token in return for the barangay’s hospitality.
The 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing based at the Mactan Benito Ebuen Air Base in Lapu-Lapu City reportedly conducts flight training in the barangay.
Mancenido said the place, with its wide field, makes a “good training area” for their pilots.
Fears of the residents about the safety of the training flights were also allayed by Mayor Lionel Bacaltos, who said that the exercises are usually done over the town’s waters and the landing zone is far from the residential area.
Seven boxes of medicine, 100 packs of school supplies (one for each indigent student), different kinds of balls and sports equipment, and 20 trash cans were turned over to the barangay represented by its chief Veronico Geralde and municipal city health officer Felyn Tampor. —Liv G. Campo/NLQ
