Drug testing for cops to continue – Roderos

-

Drug tests will continue in all police units, according to regional police director Chief Supt. Ronald Roderos who looks at the strategy as a means of cleansing the police organization of undeserving individuals.

Roderos warned members of the police force to behave in order to get back the trust of the people, which was accordingly stained by some “bad eggs” in the institution.

Aside from that, Roderos also encouraged the public to make use of the fastest way to relay possible illegal activities by policemen through texting 2920.

Text 2920, Roderos said, is one of the means of improving the image of the agency as the protector of the people.

The Police Regional Office-7 urged the public to immediately report acts of extortion committed by police personnel by texting 2920 or directly to the contact numbers of respective police station chiefs in concerned areas.

The said program is one of the main projects of PNP Chief Dir. Avelino Razon who wants to enhance the image of the “Mamang Pulis” as a trustworthy public servant.

Any wrongdoings by police can be reported through text.  Soon the names and contact numbers of the different police station chiefs will be printed outside their station for the public’s benefit.

Earlier this week a random drug test was conducted to a group of city-based police to ensure that none of them was using drugs.

Roderos said he issued such order based on a report told to him by a police informant.

In case such policemen are found positive of using drugs, they face dismissal from the service, Roderos said.  Ferliza C. Contratista/BRP
