Lending collector stabbed by irked cousin of client

-

A lending collector was stabbed in barangay Cabitoonan, Toledo City the other day reportedly by the cousin of a client who might have been irked by the manner the collector had demanded payment.

Bobby Onting, 21, a collector of Southern Star Lending, from Sabuc, Zamboanga del Norte but is temporarily residing in barangay Valladolid, Carcar City, was stabbed by Marcelo Tomarong, 50, single and a resident of the said barangay.

SPO3 Gil Lastimosa, the investigator of the case, disclosed that Onting went to see the client - couple Reynaldo and Christina Tomarong – at their house in barangay Cabitoonan to collect payment for the amount they loaned from the lending firm.

Collection of their payment was reportedly agreed to be done in a daily basis much like what most Indian nationals here (referred to as “Turkos”) have employed upon their borrowers.

The victim was said to be waiting at the living room for the couple to settle their daily dues, but minutes later, Marcelo stormed into the house and moved to stab him.

“Kining biktima kada adlaw kuno ning maningil kay mao may nasabotang mode of payment. Nya samtang naglingkod-lingkod ni siya sa sala sa balay sa magtiayon, nagpaabot nga mohatag sa datahan, kalit lang kunong misulod ning suspetsado ug mihana’g dunggab niya,” Lastimosa of the Toledo City Police said.

The victim managed to run out of the house, but the suspect caught on him and stabbed him in the back. The suspect fled after the incident, while Onting was rushed by the couple to the Toledo City District Hospital.

“Segun sa taho, kadtong suspek ig-agaw ra kuno’s magtiayon ug posibleng gihasolan to sa pagpunay og paningil aning biktima,” Lastimosa added. — Garry B. Lao/MEEV
