Print journalists invited to PopDev Media Awards
The Philippine Legislators’ Committee on Population and Development Foundation, Inc. (PLCPD), and the United Nations Population Fund have invited print journalists to participate in the 4th PopDev Media Awards this year.
The PopDev Media Awards pay tribute to media practitioners nationwide who have produced, written and reported responsible and exemplary news and feature articles on population and development published during the year.
It also aims to encourage media-men to examine population and development issues as social concerns that affect the country’s development, and to raise public awareness and knowledge on population and development issues.
There are three categories for PopDev Media Awards: the best investigative or interpretative report; the best reportage (which includes bodies of work or series of spot news coverage); the best opinion or editorial piece.
Organizers said that submitted entries must significantly explain the intrinsic connection between population factors and socio economic issues. Exemplary stories published online or via wire agencies will be given citations.
Entries should discern and explain how population growth impacts on the progress or decline in public health, economic growth and poverty, environment, housing and urban development, sustainable development, and food security.
Unlike the first year of the awards when only three winners were chosen from all over the country, this year’s search now goes regional.
Each category will have a winner from Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, which means that there will be 12 winners in all.
All entries must have been published between August 15, 2007 and August 16, 2008. The deadline for submission of entries will be on October 13, 2008, while the awarding ceremonies will be held in Manila on December.
All transportation and accommodation expenses of winners will be shouldered by the PLCPD.
