Search on for LGUs supporting Sinanduloy
A province-wide search for the best local government unit in supporting the Sinanduloy Alang sa Kabusog, Sinanduloy Alang sa Kahimsog Program was launched by the Capitol to encourage the commitment of each local government unit.
Sinanduloy is a mixture of equal amounts of rice and sweet potato (camote).
The SAKSAK Program was launched to increase the volume and feeding capacity of rice in the province, considering the worsening rice crisis around the world.
The project also encourages the planting of camote, which has always been considered a lowly crop.
The provincial government has also distributed P200,000 to each of its 44 towns and seven cities to ensure the success of the program.
The competition is open for all LGU-operated NFA retailers and will be conducted in various levels with three contest areas.
The best performing LGU supporting SAKSAK program will be based on the overall effectiveness in terms of project, planning, advocacy and sustainability in implementation, rate of adoption by non-beneficiaries of the project and the degree of support to the project in terms of allocating time, personnel, equipment and other resources.
In line with the Nutrition Month on July, an LGU will be awarded with the best SAKSAK recipe depending on the modification and combination of ingredients and the presentation of the dish. A taste test will also be conducted as part of the criteria.
In the “Sweet Potato Backyard Gardening and Production Competition”, the province promises to give technical assistance for each of the LGU’s farm. The winner is chosen according to the total aggregate area planted, the total number of people adopting the program, the average yield of the farm on a per hectare basis and the land utilization efficiency.
The contest will end on November 30 this year. The awarding of the chosen LGUs will be on December in line with the Provincial Capitol’s Christmas celebration. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/BRP
