Mayor Tomas Osmeña continues to believe in the ability of Cebu City despite a low 20th place ranking in a recent list of the most livable cities in the Philippines by business magazine MoneySense.
“We don’t need to react on that issue, we just do what we need to do”, Osmeña said.
Osmeña said that there is no other city like Cebu that can handle traffic and that the city is sophisticated compared to the others in the country.
“Cebu has the best parameters in the country and even more advance and our policemen as the best shooters in the country,” Osmeña said.
The magazine listed Bacolod as the most livable among the cities of the country.
At second to tenth spot are Makati, Davao, Marikina, Iloilo, Las Piñas, Pasig, San Fernando, Mandaluyong, and Quezon.
At 11th to 19th are Manila, Batangas, Cagayan de Oro, Muntinlupa, Angeles, Baguio, Lipa, Calamba, and General Santos.
MoneySense editor-in-chief Heinz Bulos said they based their rankings from two existing surveys — The Philippine Human Development Report of the Human Development Network and the United Nations Development Programme and the Philippine Cities Competitiveness Ranking Project of the Asian Institute of Management Policy Center.
City administrator Francisco “Bimbo” Fernandez, on the other hand, said that this list should be taken as way to know in what areas the city needs to improve on. — Jo-ana Marie P. Desuyo, CNU-Intern/NLQ
