At Osmeña Reforestation Project: DENR heightens drive  vs. illegal tree cutting

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources is intensifying its drive to curb the illegal cutting of trees within the Osmeña Reforestation Project in Minglanilla town.

Reynaldo Lanusa of the DENR said that a five-man team has been formed to safeguard the oldest reforestation project in the country, which is now being threatened by poachers.

Lanusa said the task force is composed of DENR personnel who will conduct a regular checkup of trees within the project.

He said the project has now been threatened by illegal cutters who are making charcoal for their business. He said these cutters are reportedly residents of the area.

Lanusa said with the team, DENR will be able to solve the problem on the illegal cutting trees in the area. — Jasmin R. Uy/LPM
