Close to 100 households in Sogod town’s four far-flung mountain barangays have benefited from the electrification project of the Cebu provincial government.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday led the ceremonial switch-on in sitios Dapdap and Lomboy in barangay of Bagakay, sitio Cansohan in barangay Lubo, barangay Cabaliwan and barangay Cabangahan.
Residents of these barangays, which are situated at least 16 kilometers from the town proper, were jubilant for the project.
Yesterday was also the first time that a governor has visited those areas.
“Walay imposible kung kita tanan magtambayayong,” the governor said in her speech. The electrification of these barangays is a joint project of the Sogod municipal government, the Cebu provincial government and CEBECO II.
The Sogod municipal government has subsidized the cost of the electrical materials, the provincial government provided for the electric posts and CEBECO II for the labor.
In barangay Cabangahan, the governor also launched the supplemental feeding program as well as the Food Always In The Home or FAITH program.
The governor also distributed PhilHealth cards for indigent beneficiaries and GSIS Group Accident Insurance cards for barangay officials, tanods, lupons, barangay health workers and day care workers.
Together with the governor were Sogod acting Mayor Lisa Marie Durano, Provincial Board Members Rosemarie Durano and Agnes Magpale as well as Capitol department heads. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/LPM
