Visayas holds rice confab next week
Local chief executives from three regions will convene next week for the Visayas Island Rice Consultation to discuss the real rice scenario.
Department of Agriculture Central Visayas acting regional director Ricardo Oblena said that provincial governors, as well as city and municipal mayors are set to meet on April 15 to be appraised of the rice situation in Regions 6, 7 and 8.
He said the meeting is also aimed at informing the local government units on the current initiatives, interventions and plans of the DA-GMA Rice Program to address the current need of increasing rice production in the country.
'We also aim to get the support of the local leaders for the success of our programs,” Oblena said.
A representative from the International Rice Research Institute will give a lecture on the global and regional rice situation.
The National Food Authority will also have inputs for the group.
At the end of the day's gathering, the convening group will have a commitment sharing on specific activities to be undertaken. –Ferliza C. Contratista/BRP
