156 new police recruits to undergo field training

The Cebu City Police Office has received 156 new police recruits set to undergo Field Training Program to replace the 136 recruits who had just passed their FTP.

These new police recruits are composed of 85 men and women from the Tanglaw Diwa Class 2007 plus the 71 men and women from the Utol Class 2008 from the Regional Training School.

Sr. Supt. Patrocinio Comendador these new policemen will be divided and deployed to different police stations and special units.

Unlike in previous FTP trainings, these new batches will be graded and rated by appointed FTP officers of different police stations.

If a recruit fails to pass this course means he or she goes back to the Regional Training School.

Comendador said the deployment of police recruits has made the city much safer compared to previous years. Recruits will be fielded for beat patrols, police visibility and operations against illegal drugs and other anti-crime campaigns.

CCPO administrative chief Sr. Insp. Maria Lourdes Ingente said the FTP will run for six months.

The first four months usually focuses on patrols and police visibility assignments, the fifth on traffic assignments and the last on investigation which is usually handled by the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Branch as well as other investigation sections of different police stations.

Comendador said the training is copied from the US program for police recruits.

Meanwhile, the 136 policemen that the CCPO has trained for more than a year were sent yesterday to Sibonga for the 45-day Scout Training after simple ceremonies.

Comendador said some of these policemen will be deployed back to the CCPO.  Edwin Ian Melecio/BRP
