Mayor dismayed by rally held during Suroy-Suroy

Daanbantayan Mayor Sun Shimura expressed his disappointment after some family members and supporters of slain businessman Renerio Arrogante III staged a rally during the Suroy Suroy Sugbo Northern Escapade.

“Akoa-a gyud sila gihangyo nga dili lang sa sila mag-rally karon kay daghan ta og mga bisita nga mga foreigners pero wa gyud sila nagpatuo.  Luya ta og baligya sa atong lungsod unya sila kay luya sad ug patay sa atong lungsod,” he said.

The relatives and supporters of Arrogante demanded justice for his murder, which happened exactly a month ago.

Arrogante, a former candidate for town councilor, was shot dead in front of his office while he was talking to his wife and son last month.  He was rushed to the Daanbantayan District Hospital just a short distance away but did not make it there alive.

Arrogante, more popularly known as “Gogong”, ran for town councilor in the last May 14 elections under the ticket of Augusto Corro, but lost.  Corro ran against Mayor Sun Shimura, son of Vice Mayor Maria Luisa Loot.

Daanbantayan was one of the seven towns visited by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia together with more than a hundred foreign tourists yesterday.  — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/BRP
