A 46-year-old man shot two of his neighbors who tried to pacify him during a quarrel with his live-in partner in sitio Lower Linao, Minglanilla town last Sunday, killing one and seriously injuring the other.
The suspect was identified Luisitio Gubilao, who was arrested by the police immediately after the incident.
The victims were identified as Joan Paquibot, 28, who was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, and Romeo Lapure, 47, who is now in critical condition.
Police Officer 3 Neil Mansueto, of the Minglanilla Police Station, said prior to the incident, the suspect and his live-in partner, Dora Behasa, had a quarrel inside their house.
“Sa ilang panaglalis, nilakaw si Dora ug didto mopaingon sa iyang silingan aron magpatambag,” the witnesses said.
Mansueto said the suspect went to his live-in partner who was at that time being comforted by the Paquibot and Lapure.
But Gubilao and Behasa continued with their argument and the suspect, who was reportedly drunk, wanted to hurt his live-in-partner.
So Paquibot and Lapure wanted pacify their quarrel and tried to calm down the suspect. But the suspect immediately pulled out a .38 caliber pistol and shot the victims.
“Nianang tungora kalit lang gipusil ang mga biktima,” the police said, adding that Paquibot sustained a gunshot wound to the back of his body while Lapure was hit in his chest. — Garry B. Lao/LPM
